Verizon introduces wholesale managed security, wireless IP access services

Verizon Global Wholesale (NYSE: VZ) is stepping out of its traditional fat pipe zone with the introduction of managed security and IP wireless access services.

Leveraging its security operations centers and proprietary security platform, the Managed Security Services-Premises service can collect, correlate and analyze millions of security events each day in order to provide users with actionable risk intelligence.

End-customers can use the service to improve risk insights, enhance decision making and drive day-to-day security operations to enhance infrastructure and information security, and manage risk and compliance programs. It also supports premises-based security hardware, the service supports capabilities, such as firewall, network and host intrusion detection and prevention, unified threat management and e-mail security gateway.

Available over both its 4G LTE and 3G wireless networks, Private IP Wireless Access enables service providers to extend to their business customers either a primary or backup wireless access to IP data networks, applications and data. Businesses could use the service to provide access diversity to remote offices access, field workers and telecommuters, business continuity and machine-to-machine connectivity.

Enhancing its wholesale service portfolio is essential for Verizon as it looks to offset legacy declines.

Like other traditional telcos, Verizon reported in the second quarter that declines in legacy TDM-based transport services and global wholesale service revenues fell 7.7 percent to $1.67 billion from $1.83 in the same period a year ago.
