Wausau Students Get Advice from State’s Top Cop on Internet Safety

interest4Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen has partnered with Google to teachkids how to stay safe on the web.

Thursday, Van Hollen was at Horace Mann Middle School in Wausau teaching students about internet safety using Google’s “Good to Know” information.

The program helps teens and pre-teens understand who can see you online, ways to protect passwords, and ways to not become a victim of a scam.

Van Hollen said presentations like these are key because kids play a big role in keeping the web safe.

“The first line of defense really is the children. They are the ones really using the devices and are the ones who have the best ability to protect themselves. Most of these kids, frankly, know more about how to protect themselves or use technology than we as adults do,” he explained.

The Attorney General said he hopes the Google program will be shared in more schools around the state in the near future.
