Shooting Rumor Boosts Security At Lexington High School

Security was tightened Monday at Lexington’s Tates Creek High School because of a shooting rumor that took off on Facebook.

School officials say it was started Friday, when students reported the rumors to school administrators. It then spread to Twitter.

School officers and police searched a student’s locker, vehicle and home, but found no evidence of a planned attack.

Along with the beefed up security, a letter was sent to parents.

“We have to take them all very seriously because there’s nothing more important than the safety of our students and staff,” said superintendent Tom Shelton.

Sources say the student that the rumor was about is not at school and administrators are investigating the rumor as possible bullying.
