Proos promotes Michigan cyber security efforts



Cyber security experts told state lawmakers this week that Michigan is leading the effort to protect people and infrastructure from cyber-attacks. The Senate Energy and Technology Committee heard the testimony, and State Senator John Proos says that he learned a few things about what’s been done to protect the personal information of Michigan residents.

Proos says that the fight against cyber attacks is a constant cat and mouse game that really never ends. He applauded Michigan cyber security officials for keeping state web services relatively safe.

Proos added that testimony this week revealed the majority of cyber attacks seek to uncover an individual’s personal and financial data which can then be sold to third parties. Also, an expert reported that there were more than two point five million attempted attacks on state web browsers in 2013 alone. For more information about Michigan’s cybersecurity efforts, visit
