Man held for lifting laptop from rail commuter

KOZHIKODE: Railway police recorded the arrest of a Maharashtra native on charges of lifting a laptop from a rail passenger.

The officials took Lakshman Arjun Pawar, from Ahmed Nagar into custody from Kannur railway station around 9.30 am on Sunday. The laptop was stolen from a passenger, Muhammed Abdu Rahiman, a resident of Tirur in Malappuram, on November 22. Rahiman lost his bag containing laptop and ear phones when he was travelling from Kozhikode to Tirur.

“After monitoring the footage from the surveillance cameras installed at the platform, we noticed two north Indians walking away with a laptop bag,” said P Muraleedharan, sub inspector of railway police. The first accused Bimar Ramdas Jadav was arrested on December 12 from Kozhikode railway station.

Police said the complainant was running a business next to the showroom of Malabar gold. The accused followed Rahiman, as they thought the man was coming out of the jewellery shop after purchasing gold, officials said. Police have recovered the bag and the ear phones. They are yet to locate the laptop.
