Crafty Hackers Find New Retail Target

A Texas company may be the latest target of security hackers.

Irving-based Michael’s Stores, Inc. – the nation’s largest craft store chain – is working with federal officials to investigate a possible data breach, affecting customers’ credit card and payment information.

They launched the probe after learning that several credit cards were used for fraudulent activity.

The company released a statement saying they are ”taking aggressive action to determine the nature and scope of the issue.” No other information was released, such as when the breach may have occurred, or how many customers may be affected.

Michael’s is the third major national chain to report this kind of attack. As many as 110-million holiday shoppers at Target may have had their personal data stolen; Neiman-Marcus announced that up to a million customers were affected by a similar hack last summer.

Michael’s operates more than 1,100 stores in the US and Canada.
